South African Express welcomes eight new cadet pilots
SOUTH AFRICAN EXPRESS WELCOMES EIGHT NEW CADET PILOTS:

JOHANNESBURG, 17 July 2008.

Growing regional carrier South African Express has appointed eight new cadet pilots who will begin their aviation careers with the airline this month.

South African Express has launched its own exclusive Cadet Pilot Training Programme as an initiative to creatively address the looming pilot shortage which is imminent in the aviation industry.

Dennis Maposa, Tshepho Sello, Thozamile Wakaba, Mandlelandile Nodada, Shainil Giyapersad, Cebile Mndawe, Nonhlanhla Radebe and Lerato Mantambo have been selected as cadet pilots in South African Express’ very first Cadet Pilot Training programme.

Says Dave Allanby, General Manager Operations: “We are thrilled to have our cadet pilots on board and hope that they have a long and fruitful relationship with South African Express.”

South African Express presents interested pilots with two options: The Cadet Mach 1 Programme and the Cadet Mach 2 Programme. The Mach 2 Programme will be introduced on 8 July 2008, with the Mach 1 syllabus commencing at the beginning of 2009.

Cadet Mach 1

Mach 1 is the abinitio course for the cadets who have zero or very few flying hours. These candidates would have to be sent to a flying school for 18-24 months in order to complete a full Commercial Pilot’s License prior to being brought into South African Express to join the Dash 8 aircraft pool.

Cadet Mach 2

Mach 2 is for Previously Disadvantaged Individuals (PDIs) who are fully qualified Commercial Pilots but cannot find employment because of their low time experience level.
