It’s official! After booking one of the Cape Town flights, the countdown to your vay-cay begins. And you better be sure nothing is going to get in the way of you enjoying some downtime with loved ones. Okay, so let’s make very sure you’ve not forgotten to pack something really important – and realise it when you’re already halfway to your destination. Eek!
We get it, things happen. Here’s how to help avoid a few potential mishaps.
Don’t predict the weather, check it!
If you regularly take cheap flights to Johannesburg or even better, Cape Town, then you know just how unpredictable the weather can be. One minute the sun’s shining and the next, it’s raining cats and dogs. Or, brrr, there is snow on the mountains in the Cape. So make pretty sure you check the weather forecast before packing that bag.
First aid kit
Now, we aren’t saying bring the pharmacy with you, but the essentials (plaster, alcohol-free cleansing wipes, pain killers, an anti-inflammatory, medicine for diarrhea and vomiting, insect repellent, antacid tablets, gauze and antiseptic cream – and muti for anything else to which you may be susceptible) can save the day when you most need it. Especially if you have kids running around, you need to be prepared for those “just in case they” moments.
Do you really need those three extra pairs of shoes when you’re only going away for a week? Try and colour coordinate and you’ll be able to put together a range of outfits with fewer items. This will allow room for shopping – no paying for your excess baggage. Bonus!
And we’re not talking about your weight here! Use a bathroom or luggage scale to weigh your bags before taking one of the cheap flights from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth or Jozi to East London. Depending on whether you’re travelling economy or business class, your check-in and carry-on bags may not exceed a certain weight. Use a scale to avoid overweight charges.
