The secret to finding cheap online flights

Whenever we search for domestic flights we’re no doubt looking for the best bang for our buck.

After all, when you’re travelling during peak season on routes such as the flights from Johannesburg to George or Cape Town to Hoedspruit you don’t want to be forking out your entire bonus before you even arrive at your favourite destination.

So, if you’re planning to travel soon, have a look at a few tips:

Identify the cheapest day to fly

Whether you’re booking from Durban to East London or East London to Cape Town, on the website you will be redirected to a calendar which shows you exactly on which days the flights are the cheapest. Remember to book well in advance of your departure date as booking a last-minute flight may result in you paying more. Also, don’t assume that weekday flights are cheaper than weekend flights. Sometimes, this is not the case, especially when an airline offers specials and promotions.

Fly early in the morning

Often, the cheapest flights or routes such as from Cape Town to Hoedspruit or Durban to Port Elizabeth is the earliest flight. If you’re an early riser and don’t mind waking up early for your flight, then book the first flight of the day.

Choose return flights on the same airline

Return flights on the same carrier are sometimes cheaper than booking a return flight.

Subscribe to an airline’s newsletter

One of the easiest ways to find out about current promotions is to subscribe to a newsletter. You may not follow their social media pages regularly but you’ll surely check your emails, right? So, once you’ve subscribed, keep an eye on your inbox to ensure you don’t miss out on any promotions – especially on those “one day only” specials.
