South African Express Airways confirms that its Board of Directors has taken a decision to suspend its Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, Mr Mark Shelly, pending a full investigation into allegations of misconduct.
The precautionary suspension was executed in line with the airline’s Disciplinary Policy and Procedure. It is important to emphasize that the process does not presuppose any guilt to Mr. Shelley.
It is not a sanction but it is a facility the airline has to activate so that the investigation can proceed to its finality without hindrance while ensuring there is no conflict of interest emanating from affected parties.
In terms of business continuity, the Board and Executive Management will make pronouncements on the acting appointment to fulfil the role of the Chief Financial Officer in due course. At present, Mr. Mpho Selepe, the Divisional Manager: Finance is fulfilling the function in the interim, pending the Board pronouncements.
SA Express continues to be under the stewardship of Acting CEO Victor Xaba, its capable Executive Management team and Board of Directors who will continue to lead the organisation in an efficient and effective manner. Throughout this transitional period, SA Express will continue to conduct its operations as normal, without undue disruption.
Note: SA Express was established on 24 April 1994, on the eve of South Africa’s new democratic dispensation. As a regional airline, SA Express offers seamless connectivity between primary and secondary domestic destinations in South Africa and five other SADC countries. Its proven track record over 23 years is among the reasons that SA Express continues to be regarded as a leading regional carrier on the African continent.
