Here’s why reading the fine print is important

How often do you skip through the fine print and sign right away, or click to agree to the terms and conditions button without actually reading through and understanding them? If you are guilty of doing this,it’s important to understand why you need to take the extra time to read through the fine print of any contract.

Imagine going to a theme park which advertises how exhilarating the rides are. It may read: ‘Perfect for the entire family especially for those daredevils who enjoy a thrilling experience.” However, further down the advertisement may state that the rides are not suitable for pregnant woman as well as people who have epilepsy, and so on. Should the worst happen and you are pregnant or have epilepsy, the theme park is exempt from liability.

Reading through the terms and conditions [link to: http://www.flyexpress.aero/travel-information/#terms] can be slow and laborious especially if the language is ambiguous or you’re in a rush, but it is an important process nonetheless and deserves your full attention especially when it comes to signing your name on the dotted line.

Here a few facts to help you reconsider:

  • Fine print contains the facts. If something is being advertised, it is usually short and straight to the point – which may not have all the answers to your questions. The fine print stipulates important travel information such as getting a refund if you miss your flight and other important matters.
  • You’ll have a better understanding. If you’re a first time flyer , you can never be 100 per cent sure that you know everything there is to know about your particular flight. Before you book a flight to Cape Town or anywhere esle, it is important to pay special attention to the terms and conditions.
  • It will save you a lot of time. Understanding the terms and conditions will save you from going back and forth at the airport if you’re experiencing a problem for example, with your seating plan or perhaps your ‘overweight’ baggage. The fine print should tell you exactly what to do in those circumstances.
  • You may miss a discount. There is nothing worse than making a payment and finding out afterwards that you could have received a discount.. We don’t want you kicking yourself! If there are any discounts you could benefit from, they may possibly be hidden in the t’s and c’s section.

Don’t sign anything or agree to any terms and conditions online unless you know everything that needs to be known about your particular flight and you’re comfortable with everything. If you require further assistance, contact us or speak to one of our consultants.
